R&D capacity for science and technology is fundamental to maintaining a country's competitiveness. With this in mind, STPI has been monitoring Taiwan's scientific research capacity from a global perspective by analyzing international academic publications and patent data from major countries. This provides a clear picture of where Taiwan stands in the global competition and our strengths in scientific research, which can serve as the basis for relevant policy making.
For many years, STPI has served the Ministries, including the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and Ministry of Education, in providing analysis of research capacity at different hierarchical levels. The Team's research outcomes can be a reference for the government, researchers, and the general public to understand Taiwan's academic competitiveness. Such consolidated findings can also complement the study of the primary research environment, thereby completing the systematic observation of the scientific research structure in Taiwan.
