In recent years, the rapid development and spread of generative AI applications have led experts and scholars to compare this wave of generative AI to historical industrial and technological revolutions. This analogy underscores the disruptive speed of generative AI technology dissemination, its economic development potential, and its broader social, economic, and ethical impacts.
Many renowned international institutions have already noted the extensive and significant influence of generative AI. For example, Bloomberg predicts that the global generative AI market size will reach $1.3 trillion by 2032. This prediction highlights that generative AI has become a key technology in global innovation competition. By participating in the “AI Expo for National Competitiveness” in the U.S. with the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), STPI not only demonstrates their support for the U.S. but also organizes the "Taiwan AICoE Workshop: The Challenges and Opportunities of Generative AI" at the expo. This workshop promotes important Taiwanese generative AI achievements, such as TAIDE (Trustworthy AI Dialog Engine), successfully showcasing Taiwan's research, talent, and industrial capabilities in AI, and attracting over 80 participants for discussions and exchanges. Post-event analysis reveals that approximately 76% of the attendees were from the U.S., including participants from businesses, government, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions. Business attendees accounted for the majority at 50%, followed by government attendees at around 23%, indicating the potential appeal of the forum's generative AI topics and key TAIDE achievements to the industry.
Generative AI enables non-AI professionals to easily access various AI applications, with impacts beyond imagination. Taiwan, as a critical hub for the production of advanced global semiconductors, offers flexibility, efficiency, and forward-looking technology, creating an excellent environment that can provide customized services for the chips required by various generative AI applications. During the event, speakers from Taiwan also expressed Taiwan's strong confidence in becoming the best practice ground for all innovative ideas. Through this workshop, STPI hopes to showcase Taiwan's innovative AI energy to the world and highlight that, in addition to leading semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, Taiwan also boosts robust strengths in chip design and generative AI software and hardware. This positions Taiwan as a significant engine driving the leap-forward development of global AI.
